The stars come out for Generation Green at children’s charity’s first
birthday party
Some of the country’s biggest names in pop showed their support to Generation
Green at The O2 arena in London this month.
The event was part of children’s charity, The Transformation Trust’s
first birthday party which saw over 10,000 excited school pupils from up and down
the country enjoy a perfect end-of-term treat.
Performances on the day included The Saturdays, Tinchy Stryder, The Wanted, Eliza
Doolittle and Twenty Twenty.
The Transformation Trust is a new independent education charity funding extra-curricular
activities - including music, drama, science and sport - in secondary schools designed
to help young people develop new skills, grow in confidence, learn to work as a
team, and discover hidden talents and interests.
After school activities can help keep young people in education and give them a
better and brighter future: schools report improved attendance, improved attainment
and improved staying on rates.
British Gas sponsored the 1st birthday event and invited the array of acts to sign
a Generation Green book in support of its Green Leaves initiative. The scheme rewards
schools for undertaking green activities and offers them educational tools such
as wind turbine kits and PC integrated weather stations.
Many of the country’s Generation Green schools have applied for a free Energy
Display Meter and will be linking their current work with lesson plans aimed at
reducing carbon use.
